New House Bill Would Set Limits

Side Note: There was some terrific reaching-across-the-aisle this week. A new, bipartisan med mal reform bill was recently introduced in the House of Representatives. The bill would limit non-economic damages to $250,000 and punitive damages to the greater of twice the amount of economic damages awarded or $250,000. The med mal bill would also limit attorney contingent fees. Now that is some politics that we can get behind. Let’s see if it goes anywhere.

WASHINGTON—A bipartisan group of lawmakers has introduced a bill that would limit noneconomic damages in medical malpractice cases, among other things.
