The Institute for Legal Reform is an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and regularly publishes an updated ranking of state tort systems. Iowa’s ranking increased from tenth in 2012 to fourth in 2015 and then dropped to 23rd in the latest report.

Iowa’s positive medical liability climate is not due to tort reform is expected to get even better after Gov. Terry Branstad signed Senate File 465 into law in 2017.
