OHIC Insurance Company Awarded Financial Strength Rating of A-

The Doctors Company, the nation’s leading physician-owned medical malpractice insurer, is pleased to announce that the A.M. Best Company has assigned an A- (Excellent) rating with a “Stable Outlook” to OHIC Insurance Company (OHIC), a wholly owned subsidiary of The Doctors Company.

The Doctors Company acquired OHIC, the leading medical liability carrier domiciled in Ohio, in January 2007. Together, OHIC and The Doctors Company serve more than 4,000 Ohio physician members with approximately $100 million in premium.

“We are pleased that the strength of this partnership has been recognized. Our combined organization provides Ohio policyholders with the financial strength of a physician-owned insurer with multiple A- ratings and a commitment to relentlessly protect, defend, and reward its members,” said Richard E. Anderson, MD, FACP, chairman and CEO of The Doctors Company.

A.M. Best stated that the OHIC rating reflects the acquisition, management oversight, and support provided by The Doctors Company. The rating also acknowledges The Doctors Company’s continued profitability, strong overall capitalization, prudent underwriting discipline, and exceptional cash flows.

“This A- rating is further proof that OHIC members can continue to count on us to be a financially stable company and trusted partner for many years to come,” said Thomas Luffy, regional operating officer at OHIC.

A.M. Best Company is a leading insurance rating organization whose ratings are recognized worldwide as a benchmark for assessing insurers’ financial strength. The A- (Excellent) with “Stable Outlook” rating is assigned only to select companies that have an excellent ability to meet their ongoing obligations to policyholders.
