Illinois Physician Database Now Online
Side Note: Illinois patients now have another way to research their physicians. Similar to a database that was taken offline last year, a new searchable online database was launched Wednesday, October 19 called, Physician Profile. Included in the database are all of Illinois’ 46,000 licensed physicians and surgeons with information about their educational background and training, insurance they accept, and languages spoken in their practice. Also included are disciplinary actions taken against Illinois physicians (whether they occurred in Illinois or not), including criminal convictions and if hospital privileges have ever been revoked. And, of course, the database lets patients know if physicians have had to use their med mal coverage by listing med mal judgements against them, too.
The database is located at idfpr.com, the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. We suggest that all Illinois physicians visit the database to become familiar with it. We also suggest that physicians look themselves up so they know how they are profiled and to make sure there are no errors.

Illinois patients can now research their doctors using an online database the state launched Wednesday.
The idea is to take the guesswork out of choosing a doctor by allowing easier access to information about the state’s 46,000 licensed physicians and surgeons.
