Novo Innovations Announces Three-Year Agreement with Southwest Washington Medical Center
Electronic delivery of laboratory results and transcribed reports through the Novo system are the first functionalities offered by SWMC. The hospital intends to expand the range of information it can exchange electronically to include radiology reports, lab orders and additional information that is valuable to SWMC’s practice population.
According to Petra Knowles, SWMC’s CIO, the strong results generated thus far have led the hospital to designate the Novo system as a key component of its management services organization (MSO) strategy of providing IT solutions to community-based physicians. “Rather than providing only practice management or EMR systems to practices, Knowles says, “we’re looking to leverage the Novo solution to provide a fully integrated solution to practices when they go electronic, so they will have access to the full continuum of patient information.
Prior to its relationship with Novo, SWMC developed customized point-to-point interfaces for the hospital’s largest affiliated practices, but the hospital was not satisfied with that approach’s high cost and lack of sustainability. By deploying the Novo system, SWMC interfaces with practices much more quickly — and at a fraction of the cost — than creating custom interfaces for each EMR in use in the community.
“I’m pleased that Southwest Washington Medical Center is taking the long-range view of the Novo solution and its capabilities, says Robert Connely, CEO of Novo Innovations. “Southwest Washington’s experience highlights the flexibility of the Novo system, which empowers hospitals to meet their specific information exchange priorities.
