Pediatric Cardiology Associates deal a sign that doctor deals are heating up

The acquisition this month of Pediatric Cardiology Associates, a high-profile doctors group in Tampa and St. Petersburg, is the first swell in what could be a wave of physician practice purchases across the Tampa Bay area.
Pediatrix, based in Fort Lauderdale, bought the practice for an undisclosed price.
The acquisition of Pediatric Cardiology, with 11 physicians and more than 70 staff members, was the largest in the Bay area for Pediatrix (NYSE: PDX).
The company has now built a national group practice through its acquisitions, said Brooks O’Neil, a health care analyst at Minneapolis-based Dougherty & Co. LLC.
