Now We've Seen it All in Med Mal

Physician with Glasses We here at MyMedicalMalpracticeInsurance.com have seen a lot regarding med mal. As leaders and experts in the field, there is little that takes us by surprise. But, today we are going to go a little lighter on the content to discuss two news stories that raised our eyebrows recently.

First, did you know that there is a play about med mal? It’s called, “Love Alone,” and was at Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, R.I. Interestingly, the story tells not only of the family affected by a medical error that leads to a patient’s death, but it also tells of Dr. Neal’s experience as the anesthesiologist involved who is possibly culpable. She becomes consumed with protecting her professional reputation and replays the series of events that lead to her patient’s death over and over. The play also explores the toll that it takes on her husband, JP, and their relationship.

On a more non-fiction note, the first surgery on Google Plus Hangout was broadcast. The story was detailed on healthworkscollective.com. Now, of course, we here at MyMedicalMalpracticeInsurance.com are naturally risk-adverse, we know our bias, but we can’t help but wonder if this is going to be the new way of medicine. For physicians even considering doing this, they should make sure that they are appropriately covered from a med mal standpoint. Physicians should contact their med mal insurance company, their institution(s) and any other involved parties.
