The Doctors Company is lowering its medical malpractice insurance rates for Ohio physicians by 13.4 percent on average effective immediately for new policies. The rate cut for renewal policies will kick in July 1.

The company indicated that some physicians will have premium reductions up to 20 percent, depending on specialty and practice location. The Doctors Company currently insures more than 3,000 Ohio physicians and 34,000 members nationwide.

Doctors said the move is in response to better loss experience and decreasing claims frequency in Ohio. Malpractice rates in Ohio within the past few years have begun to stabilize after changes made in Ohio’s legal climate that were urged by the OSMA.
