Arkansas Mutual Insurance Co. of Little Rock has received approval from the Arkansas Insurance Department to offer medical liability insurance to Arkansas physicians.

The firm said it’s the only Arkansas-based company approved to offer medical liability insurance in Arkansas.

“Prior to receiving our regulatory approval, Arkansas was one of the only states that did not have a state-based malpractice insurance company,” Corey Little, Arkansas Mutual’s CEO, said in a news release. “Arkansas physicians were forced to acquire their liability insurance from out of state companies, and at times that can be tricky.”

Arkansas Mutual’s board of directors includes physicians and two former Arkansas insurance commissioners, Mike Pickens and Dick Horne.
